Friends of the Library present: Ted Reinstein on New England's General Stores @ Morrill Memorial Library, Simoni Room | Norwood | Massachusetts | United States

Channel 5’s popular “Chronicle” reporter Ted Reinstein will return to the Morrill Memorial Library on Tuesday, January 23 at 7 p.m. to talk about his latest book, “New England’s General Stores: Exploring an American Classic.” The general store is as old as America itself. It evokes a homey, country-like setting where kids pored over penny candy and adults could purchase everything from fabric to fresh vegetables to four-penny nails. It was a place to pick up the mail and chat with neighbors on a cold winter morning by the warmth of the wood stove. When the characterless big box stores started moving in, the beloved general store staged a come-back. In his beautifully illustrated presentation, Ted Reinstein will share the rich history of this iconic institution that recalls a simpler, more innocent time.
