Actor Stephen Collins will return to present a one-man show, “Butterfly,” by Carl A. Rossi, about the life and times of James McNeil Whistler–the volatile American artist who struggled for personal freedom and artistic expression primarily in Victorian England. The dramatization depicts Whistler at two phases of his life—first as a bankrupt artist in his forties on commission in Venice, then as the lonely but established legend in his sixties living in London. It concludes with an explanation of how Whistler came to paint the iconic portrait of his mother, Anna McNeil Whistler, on display at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
