Code Burgundy: The Long Escape

Picture-of-John-KatsarosMonday, September 11th, 2017 at 6:30 pm

Hear the incredible story of 94-year-old World War II veteran John Katsaros at the Morrill Memorial Library where he will talk about his combat experiences as a bomber and gunner. The theme of his presentation, which will include original photographs and documents, is “Cherish Your Freedom.”

After being shot down and seriously wounded in 1944, Katsaros was captured by the Gestapo and escaped with the help of the French Resistance, not once but twice. He subsequently joined the French Resistance and the British Special Operations and was given the code name Burgundy. His book, “Code Burgundy: the Long Escape,” was published in 2008 and translated into French.

Mr. Katsaros is currently the President of the U.S. Air Forces Escape and Evasion Society (AFEES) and lives in his hometown of Haverhill. To sign up for this event, please fill out the form below, call 781-769-0200, x110 or 222, or stop by either the library Reference or Information Desk.
