Our book for May 2018 will be “All Our Wrong Todays” by debut novelist, Elan Matai. Copies of this mind-bending, time traveling SF book and audiobook will be available at the Reference Desk, and both the ebook and audiobook are available digitally through Overdrive. Pick up a copy, read it, and join us on 5/22 @ 7:30 pm!

Titles on Tap is a social book group for readers in their 20s and 30s and for the young at heart. We go in for stories that are shaken, not stirred, and we don’t mind taking our love of lit outside the library walls. Titles on Tap meets once a month in the left-hand bar of Napper Tandy’s to eat, drink, be merry, and discuss the latest reading selection. Visit our website and follow us @titlesontap to learn more.

The Life and Times of Frank Sinatra @ Morrill Memorial Library, Simoni Room
May 23 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
The Life and Times of Frank Sinatra @ Morrill Memorial Library, Simoni Room | Norwood | Massachusetts | United States

Cultural Historian, Bruce Hambro, will present “The Life and Times of Frank Sinatra, a fast-paced program about the momentous career of the greatest male entertainer of the twentieth century. Bruce’s illustrated lecture will include a treasure-trove of music and images from the vast catalog of Sinatra’s career. Beginning with the start of Sinatra’s singing career in the 1930s, this presentation follows Frank’s meteoric rise to fame in the early 1940s, his fall from grace later in that decade, and his historic comeback in the 1950s. Finally, the program demonstrates how Sinatra solidified his hold on the show business world in the 1960s, ’70s, and ’80s. Additionally, the lecture touches on Frank’s personal life – a topic with which countless Americans have always been fascinated. During the program, the audience will hear many classic Sinatra recordings, such as “I’ll Never Smile Again,” “Young at Heart,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “New York, New York,” and “My Way.” Audience members are encouraged to sing along if they like, as the lyrics to each song are projected on the big screen.

To sign up for this program, funded by the Friends of the Library, fill out the form below, call 781-769-0200 x110, or visit the Reference or Information Desk at the Morrill Memorial Library.

By popular demand, an additional session of Kelvin’s program will be held on Thursday, May 24 at 7:00 pm!

Norwood native Kelvin Chin will present a talk, Overcoming the Fear of Death, at the Morrill Memorial Library on Monday, May 21 at 7 p.m. He approaches the topic in a non-religious way designed to help reduce the anxiety many people face over confronting their mortality. Working with audiences on death and dying issues since the 1980s, Kelvin has taught numerous seminars and workshops worldwide. After graduating from Norwood High School, he earned degrees from Dartmouth, Yale, and Boston College Law School. In addition to being a co-founder of the Center for Medical Ethics and Mediation, he is a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist and has taught meditation in schools, businesses, the U.S. Army, and at West Point.

Following Kelvin’s presentation, signed copies of his 2016 bestselling book, “Overcoming the Fear of Death: Through Each of the Four Main Belief Systems,” will be available for purchase at a discount. His book and work have been featured in Newsweek, Business Insider, the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, and Kaiser Health News, among other publications.  Kelvin is the Executive Director and Founder of the Overcoming the Fear of Death Foundation and the nonprofit TurningWithin.org.
